Making delicious tea is not as hard as it seems! Let me break it down for you. Below I will walk you through the basics of how I prepare tea for the podcast, both loose leaf and bagged tea.

Each cup you make may come out slightly different each time. And there is a LOT of opinions and advise out there. I’m just going to keep things simple.

Making bagged tea

  • Electric kettle boiling water with bubbles inside, on a reflective surface against a plain white background.

Step 1: Bring your water to a boil. You are typically going to need 8-12oz of water.

  • A cozy scene with a mug of tea, open book, candles, and string lights decorated with dried leaves on a wooden table.

Step 2: Pick out a mug and place your desired tea bag inside. Then you will want to pour the boiling water over the tea.

  • Honey dripping from a wooden honey dipper.

Step 3: Add in your desired sweetener. I typically use honey. Usually about a Tsp for every 12oz of tea. Stir to mix in.

  • Top-down view of a steaming mug of tea with a tea bag inside, and a small paper note attached to the tea bag tag that reads 'Kindness is the gift of life.'

Step 4: Allow the tea to Steep. For some tea this will take 5min, for others a bit longer. For most teas I have on the podcast you are safe to steep for about 8 minutes.

  • A white table with a smartwatch, magazines, and a cup of tea.

Step 5: Remove the tea bag, stir and enjoy! If you are wanting a stronger flavor use two tea bags. Do Not steep longer. this will make your tea taste bitter, dry or tart as tanins leach into the tea when you over steep.

Making Loose Leaf Tea

Flat lay of lemon wedges, cinnamon sticks, white flowers, and a honey dipper on a white background.
  • Bring your kettle to a boil. you will need 8-12 oz of water at least.

  • Measure out your loose leaf tea and place it in your strainer. Most will usually recommend you use about 1-1/2tsp for 8-12oz of water.

  • Pour the boiling water over the tea in your strainer in your mug of choice. Add your sweetener of choice. I typically use honey, usually 1-2 tsp.

  • Allow tea to steep for 5-8 minutes. Some tea may recommend a bit longer but avoid over steeping. If you want a stronger flavor just add more tea.
